Teeth Whitening

The final result of the whitening will depend on the natural colour of your teeth. The more staining, the more dramatic the final result. No whitening product can make your teeth whiter than their true natural white. For most people their natural teeth match the shade of the white of the eye.

The effects of the whitening depend heavily on the diet. The more coffee, red wine, red meats etc. in the diet, the quicker the teeth re-stain. Most people do a touch up whitening after their regular check and clean on a 6-12 month basis.

Both options will yield the same result. In-office whitening is a faster, more convenient method, however it can make the teeth a lot more sensitive. The at home kit is gentler, but takes a few days to achieve the final result vs. a single application. The take-home option is also more cost effective.

During the course of the whitening the teeth become slightly more fragile. Please avoid contact sports during the duration of the treatment. However, once the treatment is complete the teeth remineralize within 5-7 days and are back to their original strength.

Whitening will NOT work on any of your existing dental work. If you need visible fillings these should be placed after the whitening is complete. If you have fillings colour-matched to your current shade, whitening will make them more visible and you might want to replace them.
