Wisdom teeth FAQs
Impacted wisdom teeth can permanently damage the second molars and the surrounding bone. Even properly erupted wisdom teeth have increased chances of getting tooth decay and gum infections because of how difficult they are to clean.
The safest age to remove wisdom teeth is between 15-25. After the age of 25 the chance of developing a post-operative complication doubles, continuing to increase through life. The older we get, the stiffer the bone, the slower the recovery. If you are experiencing issues with your wisdom teeth, earlier removal means faster recovery.
Many wisdom teeth can be removed simply with local anaesthesia. For mild-to-moderate impactions we recommend IV sedation in the clinic with our anesthetist. If you have deep impactions or require extensive surgery removal we will assess whether in-hospital treatment would be more appropriate. With comprehensive 3D diagnostics we will be able to discuss all the aspects of the surgery to make the decision you are most comfortable with.
The healing time varies greatly based on the difficulty of the surgery and patient factors. On average expect 2-4 days of discomfort after the surgery with most patients returning to work/regular daily activity after 5 days.
All procedures can be paid for by signing up to one of our many available payment plan options.
